A Mother’s Anger (A companion piece to “A Mother’s Love”)

With the events of the horrific earthquake and resulting tsunami in Japan I wanted to write a companion piece to my poem A Mother’s Love
This is dedicated to the people of Japan.

we, about our lives go
no worry except
a next meal
a new necklace

we, like cosmetic surgeons
in a selfish masquerade
our hands dripping
with her aggregate skin

yet she goes on
in her immovable pace
feeding, housing
embracing us like children

then, she reminds us
to her, we are but ants
not master’s of our domain
in the face of a mother’s wrath released
