how do you look into another’s eyes
how do you hold another’s hand
when they know, limited is their time
when they suffer in that mortal struggle
yet we too, in brave or with fearful countenance
must, must, face at an undetermined juncture
the great starless cloak
but to see, through their fading sight, to
understand, in their stroll towards the final eventide
gazing over their shoulder, with happy eyes
at moments once, maybe bitter
having become majestic, brazed in gold
lay at our feet, lessons in life
